| The name of this organization shall be the Louisiana Pathology Society. |
| ARTICLE II. INCORPORATION |
| The Louisiana Pathology Society shall be incorporated as a non-profit medical society under the laws of the State of Louisiana. |
The objects of this Society shall be:
1. -To elevate the standards and qualifications of physicians engaged in the practice of pathology in Louisiana.
2. -To elevate the standards of the practice of pathology in the diagnostic laboratories throughout Louisiana.
3. -To promote the practice of medicine by wider application of clinical laboratory methods in the diagnosis, management and prevention of disease.
4. -To develop and maintain official affiliation between this Society and other branches of organized medicine, such as: The Louisiana State Medical Society, The College of American Pathologists, The American Society of Clinical Pathologists and other Associations and Societies of Pathology.
5. -Through study, education and improvement of the economic aspects of the practice of pathology to advance the science of Pathology and to improve medical laboratory service to physicians, to hospitals and the public.
6. -To facilitate closer association of its members. |
| Membership in this Society shall consist of the following: |
An active member shall be a graduate of an approved school of medicine who:
1. -Has had 4 years of approved graduate training in pathology or is certified by the American Board of Pathology.
2. -Is a licensed physician in the State of Louisiana.
3. -Is actively engaged in the practice or teaching of pathology in Louisiana.
Only active members shall have the right to make motions, vote and hold office. |
A Junior member shall be:
1. -A graduate of an approved school of Medicine.
2. -Pursuing the study of pathology in approved training as a resident or fellow. Membership in this category shall be permitted until completion of residency and/or fellowship. |
| Associate membership shall be open to qualified pathologists in any of the Federal Services. |
| Individuals who have made noteworthy contributions to pathology may be considered for and elected to honorary membership. |
| Those members who have retired from the active practice or teaching of pathology. |
The officers of this Society shall consist of a President, Vice-President and Secretary-Treasurer.
These officers shall be elected every other year and shall hold office for two years, or until their successors have been elected. The duties of each officer shall be those usually pertaining to his or her office. Special note is made of the necessity for the Secretary-Treasurer to notify the CAP & ASCP of the names of the officers when there is a change. |
| ARTICLE VI. EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE |
| There shall be and executive committee consisting of the officers of the Society, the last two past presidents, the foreman of the delegation from Louisiana to the House of Delegates of the College of American Pathologists and the councilor from Louisiana to the ASCP. A quorum of the Executive Committee shall consist of four members. The Executive Committee shall act on all matters of policy that may arise between meetings. Whenever an important question arises and it is impossible to obtain a quorum, the Secretary shall mail to each member of the Executive Committee a ballot whereon shall be designated the question to be voted upon. These ballots shall be returned to the Secretary within a specified time and the results of the ballot sent to each member of the Executive Committee. When time or other circumstances do not permit the mailing of ballots, a vote may be taken by telephone or conference call. |
| This Society shall hold one annual meeting, concurrent with the Tri-State Pathology Meeting, and shall hold such other meetings as may be deemed necessary by the Executive Committee. A special meeting of this Society may be called by the Executive Committee, or upon the written petition of one-fifth of the active members. |
| This constitution may be altered or amended by vote or two thirds of the active members voting at a regular or special meeting provided said alteration or amendment has been included in the notice of the meeting, sent at least ten days prior to said meeting. |
